Awards & Recognition

Riverside County Flood Control District LID Testing and Demonstration Project – CValdo prepared PS&E for a testing facility designed to enable long term research on the effectiveness and operations and maintenance requirements for stormwater Low Impact Development Best Management Practices including pervious concrete, porous asphalt, bioretention basins, and filtration planters. The project received multiple awards including:

  • ASCE Outstanding Stormwater Management Project – California
  • APWA Southern California Chapter Project of the Year – Stormwater Quality
  • ASCE San Bernardino / Riverside Branch Civil Engineering Project Improvement Award
  • National Association of Flood and Stormwater Management Agencies Excellence in Communication Award, Special Recognition
  • California State Association of Counties Challenge Award (Population 700,000+)
  • ASCE Los Angeles Section Outstanding Sustainability Project, Honorable Mention
  • 27th Annual Beautification Award, Sustainable Design and Innovation for Exterior Reconstruction with Landscaping – Keep Riverside Clean and Beautiful
  • National Association of Flood & Stormwater Management Agencies National Green Infrastructure Project of the Year

CValdo provided hydrology and hydraulics design services for emergency replacement of the Crest Canyon storm drain system. The old 54-inch diameter corrugated metal pipe storm drain system spanned approximately 4,000 feet through Crest Canyon Park, draining to the San Dieguito Lagoon. The system had failed at multiple locations due to corrosion, resulting in massive sinkholes along the storm drain alignment. Due to the potential for harm to the public, this project was emergency fast-tracked through design and construction by the City of San Diego. CValdo, as a sub-consultant to Infrastructure Engineering Corporation, analyzed the existing system and provided design calculations and support services for a new replacement system and energy dissipater.

  • 2022 APWA Project of the Year Award

43rd and Logan Stormwater Treatment – CValdo prepared PS&E for design of 25 curbside stormwater filtration units, a trash capture pretreatment vault, and a biofiltration planter for this City of San Diego pilot project. The project goal was to reduce the discharge of metals and pesticides to Las Chollas Creek from urban runoff using non-proprietary stormwater filtration devices that could be constructed from standard drawings.  The project also included efficacy testing of different filtration media including sand, peat, granular activated carbon, and zeolite.

  • ASCE Award of Merit – San Diego Section

message from the president

“When we consider our lives and the choices we’ve made, we sometimes think about how we want to be remembered. For some it may be as a great scientist, doctor, engineer, or educator. For me and many others that I know we hope to be remembered as a good mother or father. Time spent with our children is irreplaceable, and us being there for them during their formative years is critical to them growing up with a sense of belonging and security.

At CValdo we place family at the top of the pyramid and strive to make work life balance not a slogan, but our reality. My pledge to our team is to offer the most flexible work atmosphere possible while still running a company that time and again delivers outstanding client service. This approach to business ensures we are able to be our best at work, knowing that we will be there to be our best at home.
